WWI had a negative impact on Russia's economy. There were many food shortags, population decreases, inflation and many people became peasants. The government and Czar Nicholas II were unable to help the people. Russia's people wanted a revolution and a new form of government. Lenin, a revolution leader, tried to help the country. The people were very inspired by Lenin and his quote of Peace, land and bread. Russians decided to embrace his idea of communism.
This started the Russian revolution. Czar Nicholas II was removed from power. This caused many riots and violent brawls. Many new people took government positions, which is known as the February revolition. During the time known as the October revolution, the Soviet Union was established. The Democratic system was abandoned and a dictatorship was set up. This resulted in the Russian Civil War.
