Simon Bolivar and Latin American Revolutions

Simon Bolivar was a famous military leader. He was also a famous liberator, whose accomplishments help free many South American countries from the rule of Spain. He was a well educated man who was born in Venezuela. He was schooled in Spain and traveled through Italy and France. In Europe and America, Bolivar was inspired by enlightenment thinkers such as Locke. When traveling through the US, he finally realized that it was time for his country to have a revolution. Bolivar started a revolution that led to Venezuela's independence on July 5th, 1811. After freeing Venezuela from Spain's rule, he continued leading his army and started freeing more countries. He then established the republic of Colombia, in which he granted himself president. He continued to free more countries and eventually freed Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia. After this, Simon Bolivar was considered the greatest revolutionary hero for South America.
